Today I am going to sharing a new recipe
"sesame chilli chicken" basically this is an Asian style
stir-fry with vegetables can served with plain rice and fried rice. "sesame
chilli chicken" is a great recipe for weekday dinners it is on very spicy side but
brown sugar and honey in the sauce balances its heat if you don’t like a lot of
chilli making it for children then you can skip sriracha sauce easy. This
sesame chilli chicken recipe is also great some plain white rice or brown rice,
and put in meal prep containers to enjoy a lot during the week.
Ingredients
For the sauce:
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce or other hot sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 chicken stock cube
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- ½ - 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
- Salt to taste
For the chicken:
- ½ kg chicken sliced
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoon oil divided
- 2 cloves garlic sliced
- 1 small onion fully chopped
- 2 cups mixed vegetables
- ½ teaspoon sesame oil optional
- 1 tablespoon cornflour dissolved in water
- Spring onions for garnish
Instructions
Method for velveting the chicken:
- Place chicken in bowl and sprinkle it with baking soda all over chicken toss the chicken with a spoon.
- Place it in refrigerator for 20 minutes take out chicken and rinse it in strainer making sure the baking soda rinsed off properly.
- Shake off excess and pat dry the chicken set aside to use in the recipe.
To make the sesame chilli chicken with vegetables:
- Place all items in the sauce ingredients list in a medium jug and then whisk together and set it aside then heat oil in a shallow frying pan.
- Add sliced garlic and fry it till golden brown and add sliced chicken and cook the sliced of chicken for 2 minutes till it colour changes pink to white then add the onions and fry onions for 2 minutes.
- Add mixed vegetables i used frozen mixed vegetables "capsicum, carrots, baby corn, green beans" but you can use vegetables of your choice and then vegetables cook through for 2 minutes.
- Add the sauce along with ½ cup water. Quantity of water can be increased if more gravy is preferred and mix it altogether and let the sauce come to a boil.
- When sauce comes to boil add the cornflour dissolved in water and let the sauce thicken.
- At this point, taste and adjust seasonings if required then add sesame oil if using and garnish with spring onions.
- Serve hot with plain steamed rice or fried rice.
